Kaufingerstraße

Kaufingerstraße is one of Munich's oldest streets among Munich's main shopping streets.

Kaufingerstraße borders Marienplatz to the west and is part of the large west-east axis of the historic old town and thus part of the Salzstraße from Salzburg or Reichenhall via Landsberg to Switzerland. It begins at Marienplatz and ends at the junction Färbergraben / Augustinerstraße, which roughly follows the location of the ditch of the Leonese city fortifications. There begins its extension, the Neuhauser Straße.

Kaufingerstraße is probably named after the patrician Chunradius Choufringer, who is historically comprehensible for the first time in a document dated May 28, 1239, in which he was named as a witness. He probably owned a prestigious house on Kaufingerstraße. For a while it was assumed that a place called "Kaufing" gave the name, but this cannot be proven.

With an average of 12,975 passers-by per hour (as of May 5, 2011), Kaufingerstrasse is one of the highest-turnover shopping streets in Germany. In addition, rents of around €300 and building lot purchase prices of €50,000 per square meter (year 2008) are higher in no street in Germany than in Kaufingerstrasse. (Source: Wikipedia)
